The Waxman-Markey Cap and Trade Bill will control housing standards. It forces environmental inspection before one can sell their home. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is the genius behind the 300 page amendment that no one has read– It includes a new NATIONAL BUILDING CODE that would override your local and state codes. So the standards needed for an area that has hurricanes will also be required of homes in the Midwest. Before you can sell your home, you have to pass an environmental test that some government person is going to come in and make sure you have proper storm windows and if you live in a hurricane area the inspection is even more Draconian. You have to have modern appliances, a kitchen and that sort of thing, energy efficient TVs and this sort of stuff. Until you replace all that stuff you can’t sell it. Normally that would be up to the seller and buyer. If the buyer wants to accept some old TVs and a kitchen that’s not stainless steel, fine, you negotiate that on price. But now it’s not going to be a matter of negotiation. Before you can be approved in selling your house, some government regulator is to come in and give you an examination. Folks, consequences are dire here. And all this is happening under this umbrella of this kind soft-spoken very smart president who only wants to save our light bulbs and save the White House and save the world and who, of course, can be against that, who’s for dirty air, who’s for dirty water, nobody’s for that when that’s not at all what any of this is about. Cap and trade will destroy the real estate market. As we have already seen, as the real estate market goes, so goes the economy. ______________________________________________________ It will drive up costs, eliminating some people from the buying pool while keeping others from selling as readily as they might have before. ______________________________________________________ The bill would give the federal government power over local building codes. ______________________________________________________ The idea of a national housing standard is scary. We need to make sure everyone knows about this. Please help us get this out to Realtors. If it slows more people down from selling their home it will affect the economy which is not just Realtors, mortgage lenders, carpet stores, home improvement stores, remodelers, lumber suppliers, etc. This is serious stuff! Americans should know that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history. Even Democrats can’t repeal that reality.
